Rocky Mountain Excavating, Inc. (RME) was in control of the Off-Site Infrastructure at the new VA Hospital in Aurora, Colorado. This was a turnkey package which RME was in charge of all aspects of work to include pulling and holding all permits, SWMPP permits, SWMPP inspections and maintenance, site safety controls, compliance with local jurisdictions, and stakeholders with-in the complex. The scope of this project included all aspects of work from start to finish to include, traffic closures and detours, demo of existing roadways and utilities, installation of street lights and signal lights, replacement of all underground sanitary sewer, storm sewer and water lines, construction of new roadways, intersections, hardscapes, and landscaping. On a daily basis RME coordinated this turnkey package with the existing hospitals, the University and the construction of the new VA Medical Replacement Facility. This projects borders and runs through the center of the VA Medical Facility that has heavy traffic, pedestrian traffic, and construction traffic. The emphasis on keeping not only the workers on site safe but the public and patients that need to access the other hospitals and facilities on campus was a very important part of this project. RME self-performed the entire demolition, utility installation, project management, earthwork, concrete work, and worked with the KT/JV and the VA with the multiple design issues and unforeseen conditions on the site. This project was very crucial for the completion of the new VA Hospital and schedules consistently needed to be changed and resources redirected based off of unknown conditions, design changes, and the schedule of the new VA hospital and other facilities on campus.
