Rocky Mountain Excavating, Inc. was a subcontractor to Hensel Phelps Construction for the underground wet utilities on the Microsoft Data Center project in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This was a multi-million dollar project for RME. The project was a multi-building campus for Microsoft Corporation. This was 4th phase of the overall campus and this phase included 4 new buildings. Due to the accelerated schedule and coordination with other trades, RME had (2) shifts working with multiple crews to minimize the construction schedule and conflict with other trades. The general scope of work was to install all exterior water lines, sanitary sewer laterals and main lines, industrial waste piping, and storm/drain lines. The specific scope for the water lines included 4”-12” C900 pipe (over a mile of pipe) and related accessories, fire lines into the buildings, meter pits, fire hydrant assemblies, testing and connections to existing, and copper service lines into each of the buildings. RME installed approximately a half mile of 6”-8” PVC sanitary sewer pipe, manholes, and cleanouts at each of the building. The storm sewer scope included over a mile of 8”-54” round and elliptical CPEP pipe, riprap, cleanouts, downspout connections, and 48”-96” manholes. The industrial waste consisted of 6”-8” PVC pipe, cleanouts, and manholes. Most of the utility work was completed in 6 months prior to winter conditions and RME crews re-mobilized when winter conditions allowed for the completion of minor work and punch list items.
