This project was a competitive award to replace numerous stairways and wheel chair accessible ramps to the basement of the U.S. Custom House Building in downtown Denver, Colorado. Work included security system installation, custom door and frame work, concrete walls, flatwork and ramps, weather rated wall board finishes, paint, and public safety protection. The project required strict coordination and scheduling since the ramps were the access into the child care center in the basement. Other work included repair and replacement of custom stone stairwells, custom built rail system, sidewalk repair and replacement, and sidewalk lighting system work. This work was scheduled so that hazardous and demolition activities were done during nights and on weekends while other work was completed during the day for GSA inspection during the course of construction. Permits from the City of Denver were required as was being performed in the public right of way, sidewalks were closed, and coordination with pedestrian and vehicle traffic due to a congested area. Our Construction Management team led all of Rocky Mountain Excavating, Inc. crews in self- performing 80% of the work with the stone work and rail system being the only items subcontracted to complete this project.
